What We Treat

Functional Medicine for All Ages

The science of how the body works.
Functional and natural medicine focus on wellness, prevention of disease, and health at every age.
This system of medicine also excels at treating chronic problems by finding the root cause.

FUNCTIONAL & NATUROPATHIC MEDICINE TREAT THE WHOLE PERSON

  • A thorough evaluation including a full history, exam and labs.
  • Attention to both the details and the big picture
  • Creative, inspired, and individualized solutions for most common and many uncommon conditions including dietary advice, exercise prescriptions, personalized nutritional supplements and detox plans, and much more.
  • Genomics testing through IntellxxDNA, a clinical decision-making support tool that gives you the individualized “bio-hacks” you need to know about from your unique DNA

Dr. Barter can present you with options from both the natural medicine world as well as mainstream medical treatments.  She can help you understand your options and choose the right path for you to get better and stay well.

She will make appropriate referrals to specialists on your behalf, help get you to the right providers for your needs, as well as provide experienced and responsive supervision of all aspects of your health.

Pillars of Health for Men & Women

  • Hormonal Health
  • Musculoskeletal Maintenance and Repair
  • Cardiovascular Health
  • Advanced Early Cancer Detection Screening
  • Genomics Testing – be aware of the hand you were dealt

Hormonal Health

We often see subtle signs of hormone imbalance starting around age 40 in all genders, sometimes sooner.  Hormones are key for preventing the top killers in the United States, namely cardiovascular disease, which has roots in the gut, mouth, hormonal systems, toxin and infection exposure, and inflammation, and cancer, which likewise has roots in all the same areas that cardiovascular disease does.

See much more detail on the Women’s Health and Men’s Health Pages.

Musculoskeletal Maintenance and Repair Using Injections

Health relies on regular exercise and movement.  Old injuries, the wear and tear of aging, prior surgical areas that might not feel 100% often respond beautifully to one or some combination of the following types of injection therapies:

Conditions that often benefit:

  • Arthritis
  • Rotator cuff tears, labral tears
  • Knee pain
  • Sprains and strains
  • Motor vehicle accident damage to back and neck
  • Wrist, hand, foot and ankle problems
  • Joints scheduled for replacement
  • Spinal stenosis

  • Prolozone– simple non-drug joint or soft tissue injection consisting of a short acting local anesthetic like Procaine or Lidocaine followed by medical oxygen/ozone gas. This procedure decreases inflammation and initiates the body’s repair processes.  Results are often rapid.
  • Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) – This procedure is identical to Prolozone but with the addition of platelets harvested using a special technique from the patient’s blood sample. This injection has farther-reaching healing and regeneration properties than Prolozone alone. It takes weeks to months to see the results.  It also lasts longer than Prolozone.
  • Exosomes– These tiny “packets” of regenerative and growth signaling molecules are harvested from placental stem cells using a sophisticated culture technique.Essentially, this is quite similar to stem cell injections, but at about a tenth of the price.  Results usually kick in within a few days and last 3-6 months or longer.
  • Other boosters such as BPC-157 and NAD.We offer these as injections, infusions.

Preventive Assessment & Treatment

  • Lab testing – Using Boston Heart and other leading comprehensive labs that measure metabolic, inflammatory and other markers, we can extensively map cardiovascular risk and take an individualized preventive approach using exercise, diet, lifestyle, nutritional, herbal or pharmaceutical treatment.
  • Advanced imaging and workup– We believe everyone over 50, perhaps over 40 should have the following to measure cardiovascular health:
    • EKG – to measure the electrical health of the heart
    • CIMT (Carotid Intimal Media Thickness) – a scan of the carotid arteries to measure any blockage by plaque
    • ECHO (Echocardiogram) – an advanced ultrasound of the heart that can measure each chamber of the heart, the amount of blood pumping through each chamber, the structure and health of the valves to evaluate the overall health of the heart muscle itself
    • IntellxxDNA genomics testing greatly enhances our understanding of each person’s cardiovascular risks from a family history perspective.

Cardiovascular Health

Cardiovascular disease remains the #1 cause of death in the United States today, yet it is preventable with attention to exercise, diet and lifestyle factors.  50% of people don’t know they have heart disease until their first heart attack. Of those 50%, 30-50% don’t survive that first heart attack.

Advanced Early Cancer Detection Screening

Cancer is the #2 killer in the United States today despite the widespread use of colonoscopies, skin checks, mammograms, and PAP smears.  Onco-D-Clare is a much more sophisticated screening test than those offered in the medical mainstream.  This test that doesn’t screen by looking for cancer cells (circulating tumor cells), but by mapping the white blood cell (WBC) profile.

RGCC Cancer Screening test
Onco-D-clare

  • Onco-D-clare is a cancer screening test based on the interaction of molecular biology with machine learning algorithms. This screening test can help detect cancer before symptoms appear.
  • White blood cells are isolated from blood samples, and gene expression analysis is performed on more than 90 genes. Their expression profile is then used for the classification of the sample as cancerous or healthy.
  • The Onco-D-clare test provides individuals with essential information to help them make better-informed decisions about future health and well-being.
  • The test is clinically validated and highly accurate, able to screen for all cancers except for primary brain cancer (≈92%).

RGCC Cancer Baseline and Follow-Up Tests
Oncotrace

  • Used as a BASELINE and FOLLOW-UP tool to determine starting point, and monitoring effectiveness of treatment protocols
  • May also be used for long-term monitoring following successful treatment for early detection of recurrence
  • Detects presence of ALL cancer types (except those of brain or spinal cord origin)
  • Detects the presences and number of CTCs (circulating tumor cells) in the blood
  • Determines the tissue origin or the tumor
  • Detects stemness markers to monitor activity level of the CTCs to determine how aggressive the cancer is to proliferate, metastasize, resist treatment, or recur and to determine when care is done
  • Sample is from blood
