An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
What do these conditions have in common?
- Cardiovascular disease
- Diabetes
- Dementia
- Cancer
They are all modifiable and preventable to a larger extent than the mainstream media would have you believe. With many of the risk factors well defined, and other ones being clarified and elucidated all the time, in partnership with good functional medicine care, you can reduce your chances of falling prey to all these conditions.
Functional medicine utilizes sophisticated analysis of your symptoms and labs to make changes in your health that often can't be accomplished with medications alone. Dr. Barter encourages people who consider themselves healthy to come in for assessment once per year. Many people who think they already are healthy are amazed at how much better they feel with just a little bit of preventive maintenance. Common feedback from clients who utilize the preventative functional medicine approach is experiencing increased energy and stamina, clearer and sharper cognition, fewer aches and pains, better sleep and digestion, and less frequent illness.
Not to mention how priceless it is to prevent falling prey to the major killers and robbers of quality of life in America.
People understand the need to maintain their vehicle with regular oil changes, tire rotations, fluid top-offs and the like. If a car needs regular maintenance, a human body certainly deserves routine care as well.
While all this is still far from the mind of the medical mainstream, it is the strength of the naturopathic and functional medicine physicians.
